Big changes are coming for an Oswego County school district faced with changes in its enrollment.

It's been two years since Cleveland Elementary School was closed, seen as an unpopular decision for many people in the community, but the hallways could soon be filled with students once again.

The Central Square School Board voted Monday to re-open the school.

Central Square School Superintendent Joseph Menard said this is just the first step in reconfiguring the district’s elementary schools to house pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

Officials say Cleveland will open in time for the 2016-2017 school year.

The board also voted to close Central Square Middle School, which now teaches students in sixth through eigth grade.

"What that does now is we're looking at what opportunities we have for our sven and eight students," Menard said. "Whether we move to a junior high school at Millard Hawke or a seven through 12 at our high school. That's something we are still investigating and will come back to the board."

There is no date set for when the middle school would close.

They say more decisions will be made at board of education meetings in the next few weeks.
