A Chemung County man is accused of driving drunk in a crash in Tompkins County that sent three people to the hospital.

It happened on Shaffer Road in the town of Newfield just after 7 p.m. Sunday.

State Police say 27-year-old Andrew Sampson of Horseheads crossed the center line, hitting an oncoming car head-on.

Three people in the car were flown to a Syracuse hospital with serious injuries.

Sampson is charged with first-degree vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of marijuana.
