3,050 New Yorkers tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, Governor Cuomo announced Saturday. The governor continues to push for residents to get vaccinated, as the delta variant continues to spread.

Five new COVID deaths were also confirmed. Statewide, 699 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19, with 136 patients in the ICU and 52 in ICU with intubation.

"New Yorkers fought long and hard and sacrificed a lot to get to where we are today - where we are not just surviving but living life," Cuomo said. "But our fight is not over, and we know this because the delta variant continues to infect more and more people, particularly those who are still unvaccinated. We cannot risk throwing away all of our hard-won progress, so I urge everyone who still needs their shot to get it right away and help protect themselves, their neighbors and their loved ones."

The statewide seven-day average positivity rate is 2.40%. This marks a nearly 0.8% percent jump since last Saturday, when the average was only 1.6%.

According to CDC data cited by the governor, 75.2% of all New Yorkers age 18 and older have received at least one vaccine dose and 68.5% have completed their vaccine series. 62.9% of New Yorkers of all ages have received at least one dose and 57.05% have completed their vaccine series.

42,284 vaccines were administered over the past 24 hours, and 256,193 shots were given out in the past seven days.
