Legislation preventing utility companies from disconnecting service to New York customers for non-payment has been extended.

It will run 180 days past December 31 or until the COVID-19 state of emergency is lifted, whichever comes first.

That applies to electric, gas, water, telecommunications, cable and broadband services.

Utility companies must instead offer customers a deferred payment agreement without fees or penalties.
