The next three months are typically the warmest months of the year.

While we all want to stay cool, National Grid is reminding us to consider some energy efficiency.

What You Need To Know

  • Reducing energy usage can help save money

  • Simple things like cleaning air filters, using fans, and a programmable thermostat can help save costs

  • More people are home during the coronavirus pandemic, which means it's more important

With more of us home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we're using more lights, computers, and appliances than usual.

Opening windows and using fans rather than running air conditioning all day can be helpful to the power company. A wifi app or programmable thermostat can also help limit running air systems when we're not at home.

Other saving tips include using LED light bulbs and cleaning your air unit filters regularly.

"Whether you have a window air conditioner or central air, remember to clean or replace those air filters every month. That's going to help with air flow, that's going to extend the life of that unit, and save you some energy costs," said National Grid Senior Program Manager Tom Baron.

Experts said reducing our energy usage can not only help lower our bills, but it can also help reduce air pollution, and cut down on demand of utility equipment.
