Watch the video above for an overview of the payments.

Here are answers to the most common questions:

A lot of questions have been coming in about specific government assistance programs and whether or not people on them qualify for the stimulus package.

The stimulus package will not be denied to people on assistance programs. In order to qualify, you simply need a Social Security number, make less than $75,000 a year. Owed debt will not exclude you from stimulus money, with the exception of money owed in child support.

People on certain programs, excluding those people on Social Security, will have to fill out a form on the IRS website.

Question:
If I am on Social Security, do I need to file a tax return in order to receive a stimulus check?
Answer:
No. On April 1, the IRS clarified its guidance to align with the language in the CARES Act. Social Security recipients will receive stimulus checks automatically, without taking any action, according to the United States Treasury Department. Each individual will receive $1,200.

Question:
What if I'm on Social Security and I have children under the age of 17?
Answer:
In this case, then you will need to fill out the non-filer form on the website to register the information.  The different people who fall under this category are anyone who receives Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits.

Question:
If I am on a previous repayment plan with the IRS for back taxes taken from my bank account every month, will I still get my stimulus check?
Answer:
Yes, you will still get a check. If you owe money to the government in back taxes or other debts, you will still receive stimulus money.
The one exception to this is if somebody owes money in the form of child support, and it has been reported to the Treasury Department, they are not eligible to receive government stimulus money.

Question:
I have a 19-year-old living in my house, will she get stimulus money?
Answer:
While parents will get $500 per child in their care, this only applies to dependents under the age of 17. Anyone listed as a dependent age 17 or older will not qualify the parent for that extra money.

Question:
Will caretakers of adult dependents receive the $500 a parent would?
Answer:
No. Adult dependents do not qualify a caretaker or parent for added stimulus money.

Question:
I have not filed my tax return yet, will I still get stimulus money?
Answer:
If you have not yet filed, or you don't typically file a return, you will still get a check. If you filed in 2018, your check will be based off those figures. If you didn't file last year, you will need to go online and file a simple tax return through the IRS. Link to that form can be found below!

Question:
How long the payments will be available?
Answer:
If you haven’t filed yet, it’s not too late. The deadline to file official taxes has been extended to July 15th, and the stimulus payments will be available until the end of 2020.

Question:
When will I receive money from the government?
Answer:
Payments will be starting within the next three weeks, and they will be distributed automatically. Most people won’t actually have to do any extra work to get their money.

Question:
How will I get that payment?
Answer:

The IRS will be automatically calculating who is eligible. If you have already filed your 2019 returns, they’ll use that, if you haven't filed those yet, they’ll use returns from 2018, and the money will be sent direct deposit into the bank account listed you listed on those forms.

Question:
Can I get payment if I've moved or changed bank accounts?
Answer:
For that, you’ll have to head to the IRS website. The Treasury Department is developing a web portal for people to update their information to what is most current. It’s not open just yet, but it will be available soon.
