The Atlantic Coast Conference has reversed course and canceled the remainder of its basketball tournament as the coronavirus spreads.

"We are disappointed for our student-athletes, schools and fans to have to make this decision; however, the overall health and safety of all involved is the priority," read a statement from the conference.

The tournament was being held in Greensboro, N.C.; Syracuse's final game of the tournament was Wednesday night, an 81-53 win over North Carolina.

The cancellation brought quick reaction from players involved.

Earlier Thursday, the ACC had announced they were "ready to tip," according to Commissioner John Swofford.

The cancellation of the tournament means Florida State is the ACC men's basketball champion, and will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The NCAA announced Wednesday that all tournament games will be played without fans in attendance.
