A popular car show in Western New York made its way to the New York State Fairgrounds this weekend.
Rodney Lawrence is tickled pink over his 1929 Tudor Ford Model Car.
“I went to an auction, a car auction, and at the car auction I saw this car,” Lawrence said. “My wife went to the bathroom. When she came back, I said “Let me show you this car I am thinking about buying.” So I showed it to her. It’s between these two cars, which one do you like? She goes, “I like the pink one.” I said, “Good, you own it.” She didn’t even know I had bought it.”
The car only has a 12-gallon tank, and it gets four miles for every gallon.
“The pistons have been boarded out so bow, it’s a stroker motor, which is more compression,” Lawrence said. “It’s a lot faster car.”
Lawrence only drives the classic car in the summer months. During the winter, it’s in a temperature-controlled storage.
“It keeps the seals in that in that in the engine from cracking,” Lawrence said. “Most of the seals are made out of leather or a fine rubber. If the temperature changes too much then they crack. Once they crack, you have to replace them because they leak.”
Lawrence has been participating in car shows for the last 20 years. He says during the summer, he does about 30 shows.
“Mostly the Southern Tier is where I go, but if it’s an indoor car show like the one we’re at now, I’ll do that one,” he said. “I go to any little show that they have. Some are at restaurants where they have a cruise night.”
Lawrence says he is enjoying his hot pink ride but wants to get some more classics in the future.
The Cavalcade of Cars has been raising money for local charities each year since its founding in 1994.
