For more than 30 years, shoppers have been turning to A.C. Moore for their craft supplies. Now, they’re closing their doors.
More than 140 stores will be affected by the closures, including two locations in central New York — in Clay and Auburn — and one in the Southern Tier, in Vestal.
“I've been coming here for 10 years, I lived up here. Again, their prices beat everything, their personality, again it’s like a family store,” said William Cronin an A.C. Moore Shopper.
The chain announced monday morning all of those locations will be closing.
“I feel very sad about it, I don’t know where I'm going to shop for my craft items from now on because I find that they have the best selection and the best prices here,” said Mary Mastin an A.C. Moore Shopper.
“Its devastating, I do craft stuff all the time, and we donate a portion of all of our stuff to the cancer center, and as a crafter its just heartbreaking that they’re doing this,” said Cronin.
Part of a statement released by the CEO of A.C. Moore reads: “Unfortunately, given the headwinds facing many retailers in today's environment, it made it very difficult for us to operate and compete on a National level.”
“Then we came here and found out that the employees found out online that they’re being out of a job. It’s just wrong,” said Cronin.
A.C. Moore locations will become vacant, or be taken over by Michael’s.
“I’m amazed, it's a very popular store, but as long as it's not vacant its very sad when things are vacant,” said Donna Greene an A.C. Moore Shopper.
