Temperatures

When you take all the daily high and low temperatures for a month and average them, you get a “mean temperature.”

We started out winter in December with a mean temperature 7.6 degrees above average, we ended up 4.6 degrees below average in January.

The warming trend returned in February, however, as we ended up 2.3 degrees above average for last month.

When factoring in December, January, and February temperatures altogether, winter 2021-22 came out warmer than average by 1.7 degrees.

The coldest temperature recorded during the three-month stretch was -9 degrees, on both January 22 and 30.

The warmest we got was 67 degrees on December 16..

Snowfall

In terms of snowfall, we fell way behind the average when looking at winter 2021-22 in Syracuse.

We only picked up 53.9 inches from December through February.

In an average meteorological winter, we pick up 94.9 inches of snow

As of this writing, total seasonal snowfall is only up to 58.1 inches, so we will see how much more we can add on before temperatures turn warmer and stay warm.

If you thought winter has gotten less snowy, you would be correct..

This is the fourth year in a row where our December-through-February snow total has decreased.

If this winter has shown us nothing else, it reinforced the adage, “if you don’t like the weather, wait a few minutes and it will change.”
