SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Advocates gathered for a celebration in Syracuse to mark World Down Syndrome Day.

Gigi's Playhouse hosted the event at Destiny USA on Friday. It included games, raffles, and other activities in an effort to raise awareness for Down Syndrome.

"We are more alike than different. So people can see us as we are and be treated as an equal," said Kayla McKeon, the assistant site coordinator for Gigi's Playhouse.

Heather Rodriquez, a board member for Gigi's Playhouse, added, "Down Syndrome is not a sad diagnosis. There is a life full of possibilities and wonderful achievements."

GiGi's Playhouse offers therapeutic programs for adults and children with Down Syndrome free of charge at their location in Driver's Village in Cicero.
