Julie Chapman is an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist with more than 30 years of professional news experience. She is also an Edward R. Murrow 2024 Award-winner for video storytelling. She helped debut Spectrum News 1 Albany when it first hit the airwaves back in 2002. Prior to this, Julie worked as an anchor and reporter at various news stations from Binghamton to Baltimore.
In addition to broadcast journalism, Julie is a national award-winning author. She has written two children’s books that celebrate the magical moments of the holiday seasons. Julie’s first book, Witches, Bats, and Mystical Cats won a national Moonbeam Award, and was named the Outstanding Creator Awards’ 2022 Children’s Book of the Year. The critic review called her writing “masterful,” and her poetry, "upbeat, fun, and enjoyable." They wrote, "Chapman offers up tasty poetic versus that give children a lot to think about." Her newest follow-up book, Santa, Elves, and Magical Bells is also a national award winner. It was named Best Holiday Book of 2024 by the Book Excellence, National Indie, Book Fest, and Outstanding Creator Awards.
Dedicated to giving back, Julie is passionate about mentoring and youth empowerment programs. She hosts numerous school assemblies throughout the year where she talks with students about the importance of reading, writing, imagination, and self-expression.
In her spare time, Julie loves riding her motorcycle (Can-Am Spyder), Formula 1 Racing, caring for her rescue kitties, and power walking with friends. You can also find Julie hosting booths at community festivals throughout the year where she enjoys engaging with people about life’s lighter moments through her books.
