It may be a COVID-19-shortened spring season but the Siena women’s soccer team hasn’t missed a step, with a 6-0-1 regular-season record.

“We’ve been waiting so long for this opportunity to play, and to have it come game after game after game, it really gave us a chance to showcase our ability,” Siena junior and Schoharie graduate Carrie Krohn said.

“It’s been rewarding to string together some wins and build some momentum,” Siena head coach Steve Karbowski added.

It’s also been a breakout season for Krohn, with eight total points (three goals, two assists). It’s taken her time to adjust to the college game after a small-high school career, but things are beginning to click for her.

“It’s just different," Krohn said of playing in college. "Scoring a collegiate goal and getting this far in a tournament, it’s so different than high school. It’s so much more rewarding.”

“[I] definitely thought she could be this type of player, and using her out on the wing, the width this year has really been great for her," Karbowski added. "She gets a little more isolated; she gets up the field a little more.”

But her great play is attributed to her friends and more importantly her two sisters, Megan and Katie, who are Schoharie standouts as their sister once was.

“If I didn’t have them growing up, I definitely would not have been as successful, I think," Krohn said. "They’re always out there with me … and pushing me to be better, so for sure, they have a lot of credit for that.”

Krohn hopes her great play will continue Friday afternoon against Monmouth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game. The Saints are looking for the program’s third-ever MAAC championship, but Monmouth – which handed Siena the only blemish on its otherwise-clean sheet this regular season with a draw – has won the last five conference crowns.

“There are no words," she said. "I can’t sleep at night. I’m very anxious, very nervous. Ultimately, I’m excited. I’m up for the challenge and this next step in my journey, so I’m just really hoping it’s a positive one.

“I really feel like we’re ready for this game, and I’m looking forward to watching them play, and it figures to be a close game,” Karbowski added.
