Matt Hunter is the Saratoga County and North Country reporter at Spectrum News. Prior to moving to the Saratoga Springs office, he spent nearly three years working out of the newsroom's Glens Falls bureau.
Since arriving in 2009, Matt has been an integral part of the station's coverage of events ranging from Glens Falls native Jimmer Fredette's run through the 2011 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, to the Dannemora prison break and Triple Crown winner American Pharoah's run in the 2015 Travers Stakes.
A Clifton Park native and lifelong racing fan, Matt earned his first ever paycheck working as an usher in the grandstand at Saratoga Race Course during high school. Since 2012 he has been the station's lead thoroughbred racing reporter. After producing and co-hosting the inaugural season of Spectrum's daily live racing show "'Toga Today" in 2016, Matt moved into a new roll in the summer of 2017 with "Sundays at Saratoga." The weekly special features program offers an unprecedented in-depth look at the sport and the people and horses that make it unique.
Prior to joining Spectrum, Matt spent two years covering news in the Black Hills of South Dakota at KOTA Territory News in Rapid City. He is a 2006 graduate of Manhattan College in the Bronx.
