Watervliet Police Chief Anthony Geraci has been laid off.

City General Manager Joseph LaCivita confirmed the layoff to Spectrum News, noting that there will be more layoffs in city departments. LaCivita says the city is facing a $1.2 million budget gap due to lost revenues during the pandemic, so the city is reorganizing departments.

Geraci took over last July and was an Albany Police officer before that. He took the position in Watervliet after Chief Mark Spain's retirement. Lt. Brian Strock, who had been interim police chief between Spain and Geraci, will again serve as interim chief.
