A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection to a threat posted on social media Sunday night regarding a shooting at Albany High School.

According to police, the defendant posted a threat on his Facebook page indicating he would be involved in a school shooting at the school, which was placed on lockdown as a result.

The defendant was taken into custody Monday morning and has been charged with making a terroristic threat and his scheduled to be arraigned later Monday.

The Troy School District also addressed social media rumors of a threat on Sunday evening. No class activity was disrupted on Monday, though additional safety measures were put in place.

Many parents are concerned after they said they found out about the threat through the district's social media page.

One mother said she kept her daughter home Monday because of her concerns. She believes the school didn't do enough to inform parents about these threats and said the enhanced security is good to see, but still isn't enough to ease her worries.

The school is making emotional support available to students who affected by the lockdown.

The Albany Public school teachers association is working with their teachers to make sure they are able to help their students feel safe in the classroom. Laura Franz is the president of the Albany Public School Teachers Association.

“They worry about what they will be able to do to keep folks safe and what is actually going on and what is coming into our building from the surrounding community. Teachers want to teach and their prime objective is to teach and for children to learn. Now we need to make sure that students are safe first. No one can learn in an environment where you don’t feel safe,” adds Franz.

The Albany school district released this statement saying in part, “The district takes seriously the concerns parents and students feel during these situations. It is important to ensure that the district provides timely and accurate information to our families to empower them to decide what is right for their children.”
