The count of absentee ballots in the race for Colonie town supervisor has come to a close. Democratic incumbent Paula Mahan came out on top, holding off Republican challenger George Scaringe by 106 votes.

Approximately 750 absentee ballots from 65 different precincts were opened and counted one by one. After election night, Mahan led Scaringe by just 62 votes.

During the campaign, the two went head to head over a number of issues, including development, traffic congestion, and pensions.

Mahan says this race was very different from those past, since she took office in 2008.

"This election had extremely low turnout, which makes it difficult because you don't have a true picture, because people stay home," the town supervisor added.

After Mahan declared victory, Mahan told Spectrum News she's looking forward to another term.

"I focus on the positive. I focus on the good people of this town," Mahan said.
