An 8-year-old's desire to help kids battling cancer stay warm during the winter is still going strong after more than a decade.

Jeremy Wernick started Hatsgiving in 2013 when he was in the fourth grade after shaving his head to raise money for childhood cancer research. The goal is to provide pediatric cancer patients with soft and warm new hats to everyone from newborns to adults. Hats are knitted and purchased by locals in the community.

To date, the non-profit has collected nearly 52,000 hats in the Capital Region and distributed them to more than 100 pediatric cancer centers across the country.

If you'd like to help, you can knit or buy a hat of any size and drop it off to a designated location or donate money to help with shipping costs.
