Multiple law enforcement agencies were searching for two men in a silver sedan, possibly an Infiniti or Lexus, in connection with a report of an armed robbery and a kidnapping of a child Monday on the perimeter of the University at Albany campus near I-90, New York State University Police said.

At around 5:15 p.m. Monday, a man and a woman who were pulling their vehicle on campus to fix a flat tire told university police that two males approached them, and one displayed a handgun and demanded their valuables before abducting a young child and fleeing, university police said.

The man and woman called 911 and reported pursuing the suspects’ vehicle before the men stopped, placed the child on the side of the road and drove away, police said.

The couple safely recovered the child, police said. University police and state and local authorities were investigating the incident.

"There is no information that leads us to believe that the reporting party or suspects have any affiliation with the university or that there is any ongoing danger to our campus," university police said in a statement.
