Performers are itching to get back on stage as much as we want to see them. But one local theater company is continuing to bring the experience of the arts into your home while it prepares to bring back live shows.

Home Made Theater is keeping people entertained and safe. After two live outdoor productions in the fall, the group organized a series of online shows and radio teleplays. It's back to the basics.

"People are just itching to get back to the theater. They’re been cooped up for so long that they just have this thirst for attending something live and something that’s artistically entertaining," said Michael Mensching, a co-host of the group's upcoming performance.

Their next performance is an interactive improv show, called "On the Fly!" to be performed online Saturday, April 10.

"We’re kind of modeled off of the popular show, 'Whose Line is it Anyway?' " said Michael McDermott, the show's other co-host. "We’ll be using audience feedback to help give us some direction."

The hosts will help prompt the actors, who will guide the virtual audience through six to eight skits over an hour. Will it be weird not to have the audience laughing in person?

"As much as we’d like to be a lot more active and engaged with the audience, what you’re going to see these people doing with each other. It should be a lot of fun," McDermott said.

As for getting back inside a physical theater, it’ll be a little trickier for small companies like Home Made, who will be likely need to comply with capacity limits in much smaller venues than Broadway theaters, but they’re looking forward to that day.

In the meantime, they’re preparing for more outdoor performances as the weather warms up.

"We’re calling it 'The World is Our Stage' season, because we’re kind of doing things all over the place and outdoors," said Eric Rudy, Home Made Theater's general manager. "And we’re planning to follow whatever state guidelines are in place when the production happens."
