Chants of “Less guns, more books,” and “What do we want, justice, when do we want it, now,” echoed down Old Sixth Avenue in Troy Wednesday night.

What You Need To Know

  • The gathering took place just steps away from where 11-year-old Ayshawn Davis was shot and killed Sunday night

  • The FBI announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible

  • Troy police did not provide any updates on Wednesday

Several community groups, including SNUG, came together to call for an end to gun violence. Many say what has happened recently is not acceptable.

“It don’t matter man what time that baby was out here,” said Asaushea Wallace, a program supervisor for SNUG. “That was an 11-year-old baby. Didn’t do anything to anybody.”

They spread awareness on the impact of gun violence just steps away from where 11-year-old Ayshawn Davis was shot and killed Sunday night. Police say he was shot in the head during a drive-by shooting.

“Whenever something like this happens, it retriggers other traumas,” said Jerome Brown, a program manager for SNUG.

Earlier in the day, the FBI announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. This is on top of the more than $6,000 raised by the community.

“Everybody wants to find who did this to Ayshawn Davis,” Assistant Special Agent in Charge Peter Magnetto said.

He is hoping the money will help get that message out there. Troy Police did not provide any updates on Wednesday, but Magnetto says detectives are working hard on this case.

“We will do all that we can to protect those individuals coming forward. Again, they’re not in trouble. It’s the ones that killed Ayshawn Davis that are in trouble,” Magnetto said. “And help us, help your community, find those responsible.”
