Carly Waters is the 10-year-old girl currently in front of a sewing machine doing what she loves.

“When I’m all done with my school work and stuff, I say, 'Mom can I sew some more masks,'” said Carly.

Passionate about giving back in these times, she is making protective face masks for those who need it most.

“All the nurses out there have to use their mask every day and they have to take care of lots of patients,” explained Carly.

And she’s no stranger to the art of sewing, Carly’s been doing it since she was four.

“My mom got me this little sewing machine and taught me how to sew pillows,” said Carly.

Every stitch since then has gone to help someone. She’s raised over $80,000 for hearing aids by sewing lemon pillows. Carly’s mom, Marissa Waters, says she proud to see what she’s taught her daughter is being used to help others.

“I’m really glad that Carly’s at an age now that she’s so talented and she’s seeing how important of a skill it is,” said Marissa.

It’s also become a family project. With her sister at the cutting table and her mom by her side, they’ve managed to churn out over 300 masks so far. Carly says when the quarantine is over she’ll continue to use her skills to give back.

“I feel like I can accomplish more stuff to help more people,” said Carly.
