With New York facing a budget deficit in excess of $6 billion, policymakers are eying the state's Medicaid program for possible cuts.

One in three New Yorkers receive healthcare through Medicaid and some are questioning whether New York spends too much money on the program. Eric Linzer of the Health Plan Association thinks there's room in the program for savings.

"The governor, as part of his 30-day amendments outlined a series of provisions that would reform the way that care is delivered to low-income, vulnerable people who are either uninsured or don't have the financial means," Linzer said.

Hospitals successfully pushed back on that amendment, but it looks like they’ll have to gear up for the same fight in 2020.
