Albany police have identified the victim from Friday night's homicide at First Street and Lexington Avenue as 26-year-old Raheem Douglas of Albany.

A Friday night press release from the Albany Police Department said officers responded to the scene around 7:40 p.m. They found Douglas near the intersection with gunshot wounds to his torso.

Douglas was taken, according to the release, to Albany Med, where his gunshot wounds were confirmed fatal.

Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins said preliminary information received detailed there were two men having an argument, when one of those men decided to "resolve" the issue with a handgun.

Hawkins also said he had not received any information Friday night's incident was connected to another crime, nor any information on if the suspect came from outside the community.

Friday's investigation marked Albany's second homicide this week and the third homicide of 2019.

Earlier this week, after the homicide of 20-year-old Kenneth Love, Hawkins said he was shifting his focus on the violence in Albany to that of the youth.

Hawkins, along with members of the Albany community, say youth violence is an issue that needs attention and community-advised action.

APD asks anyone with information on Friday night's homicide to call 518-462-8039.
