Thousands celebrated in the 10th anniversary of PearlPalooza in Albany on Saturday, where several bands and local businesses are lined Pearl Street to celebrate with music, food and more. Organizers estimated more than 10,000 people will have flooded Pearl Street throughout the day and evening and they say it's a great opportunity to for people to enjoy local music and everything Albany has to offer.

"You have six bands, we set it up so there's two stages, one wraps up and then another takes off," said Jason Keller, Afternoon Drive Host on 102.7 WEQX, one of the partners for the event.

Keller says the free event is catered to the tastes of Albany's alternative music listeners. Bands Hanzolo, In The Valley Below, Victory Soul Orchestra, The Moth & The Flame, *repeat repeat and Wild Belle played the event.

"So this is not a tour that goes from city to city. This was curated by local tastes and by what works at the radio station," Keller said.

Keller says between all of the sponsors and the city it takes a lot of work to make an event like this come together, but Executive Director of the Downtown Albany BID, Georgette Steffens, says it's all worth it.

"I think the best part about PearlPalooza is that it really is all about the music. It's also a really local event — it's sponsored by local businesses," Steffens said. "So it's really about the local community coming together to present free music in a great backdrop of our historic buildings downtown."

Beyond that, Steffens says the partnership with EQX is an opportunity all its own — for fans and for the bands.

"They've brought in incredible bands that have gone on from here to playing — opening for other bands — playing live stadiums themselves so it's a really great opportunity for EQX to bring in bands that are sort of on their way up and we get the opportunity see them here first and for free," Steffens said.

It all kicked off early Saturday morning with Yogapalooza — where more than 500 people came out to practice yoga in the middle of Pearl Street — it was their best-attended year for that so far. The event also featured local food trucks and a cornhole tournament.
