The inaugural Aurora Games begin Tuesday evening in Albany, featuring some of the best professional female athletes in the world.

The six-sport, six-day event kicks off tomorrow night at the Times Union Center.

There will be more than 125 athletes from 25 different countries. The featured sports are tennis, gymnastics, basketball, ice hockey, figure skating, and beach volleyball.

T-U Center General Manager Bob Belber says ticket sales got off to a slower start, but they're starting to see the numbers come in. He's hoping the community will come out to support female athletes in a big way.

"We're all trying to be seen as equals and we're all trying to make a name for ourselves, and this great event with these great athletes and some pretty great people is a way to capture that," added professional tennis player Monica Puig.

Opening ceremonies start Tuesday at 7 p.m. That's followed by the tennis competition. There are still plenty of seats available, starting at $15.
