The Saratoga Racing season will be galloping in to the spa city a week earlier this year and the move is getting mixed reviews from local business owners.

The New York Racing Association moved up opening day this year to July 11.

The track will also only be open 5 days a week instead of six.

While this has some business owners worried this could negatively impact tourism, others  say they are excited that the move could drive more racing fans to downtown.

But one popular coffee shop says that the new schedule could bring more people into the store for the summer time.

“I think it should be fine as far as we go. People come in town, they're still going to go out, hang out at the bars.  Get food and drinks and shop so I don't think it will be a bad thing,” said Uncommon Grounds Coffee Shop bartender Ann Barone.

"I think it’s better that we are starting earlier and having two dark days gives people the opportunity to spend time away from the track to also access the boutiques, cafes, and local business to actually support the local economy even more,” said Jacquelyn Ginac.

The summer's biggest race — the Traver's Stakes — will be on Saturday, August 24.
