A local firefighter battling sepsis appears to be improving. Josh Woodward has been in the hospital for a week and the community has raised thousands of dollars.

Thursday, his wife Chelsea posted on Facebook her husband was able to move his hand around. Josh’s fire captain says he even opened his eyes a little bit.

All this as the community continues to raise money. A GoFundMe page has already collected more than $80,000.

"It's hit the guys hard to have something like that," said Capt. Don Brundage, Albany Airport Fire Department.

It's been a difficult week for members of the Albany Airport Fire Department.

"It surprised us because that Saturday we had worked, everything had been fine," Brundage said.

That was when the fire department began collecting donations to help Woodward and his family. This week they got a little assistance from local graphic designer, and owner of Compulsive Designs, Benjamin Pratt.

"I had seen a picture on Facebook of his helmet and jacket in his room, and then instantly it clicked and that was it," Pratt said.

With approval from the firefighters, Pratt created more than 600 stickers.

"I can't give him a million dollars. I can't give a cure. But something like this that people see, it might give them hope," Pratt said.

All the stickers will be donated, hoping it will help raise more money. In addition, Pratt says he will also be making t-shirts, with all the proceeds going toward Woodward and his family.

The stickers are being sold at the fire house, where firefighters are seeking a $20 donation for each one.

"I know it's a long road but I have told my crew we're going to be here for him, and there will be a day where I fully expect him to walk through this door and work with us," Brundage said.

Twill has announced it will be selling Woodward strong products, with beanies and hats available on their website. All of the proceeds will be donated.
