The Democratic-led state Senate on Thursday sent the Child Victims Act to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s desk as survivors of childhood sexual abuse urged him to approve it as soon as possible.

Cuomo had said last month he would sign the bill on the day it was approved in the legislature while holding a press conference on the legislation at the Capitol.

The bill is meant to make it easier for the survivors of abuse and assault to file civil lawsuits by extending the statute of limitations.

“Victims have suffered long enough, I urge Governor Cuomo to sign the Child Victims Act today. This will send a powerful message to victims and close the door on predators,” said Gary Greenberg, a businessman from Greene County and advocate for the bill.
