Former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman paid his legal bills with campaign money.

The politician used nearly $340,000 dollars to pay the law firm representing him after allegations that he physically abused several women.

Campaign finance reports say Schneiderman's re-election committee started those payments just a week after he resigned.

A politician paying legal fees is not against the law, though reform advocates have criticized the practice.

A spokeswoman for the former AG says the campaign is "honoring its commitments and paying bills in accordance with applicable law."
