Charges against a former Troy Police officer accused of assaulting a man at a Little League game last fall have been dropped.

Dominick Comitale resigned from the department earlier this month. He was facing assault and harassment charges and was arraigned on Christmas Eve.

The accusations stem from a September incident at the Twin-Town Little League where Comitale allegedly elbowed Darren Ayotte, vice president of the league. Comitale was off duty at the time.

The Rensselaer County district attorney's office says the charges were dropped due to a speedy trial motion filed by the defense.

The city of Troy has settled four past claims against Comitale, including allegations of excessive force.
