NATIONWIDE — Get ready, Netflix subscribers: You're about to pay a little more for your plan.

  • Netflix raising prices for subscription plans
  • Cheapest plan will now cost $9 a month, up from $8
  • Move comes as Netflix ramps up original content

The streaming service has announced its raising prices on all U.S. plans starting Tuesday.

Netflix's cheapest plan, which doesn't include HD streaming, will jump from $8 to $9 per month. The most popular plan will increase from $11 to $13 per month for HD streaming. The premium plan that includes 4K streaming will increase from $14 to $16 per month.

The price hikes will affect new subscribers immediately. Current subscribers will see the increase over the next three months, according to the Associated Press.

The moves comes as Netflix dives deeper into original content, which is costly.

"We change pricing from time to time as we continue investing in great entertainment and improving the overall Netflix experience," Netflix said in a statement.

Netflix is aslo facing growing competition from company's like Amazon, Hulu and HBO. Disney plans to enter that game this year with the launch of its own streaming service called Disney+.
