A few hundred people lined up hours before the doors even opened Friday morning at Theory Wellness in Great Barrington, despite bitter cold weather.
Many people are looking to buy recreational weed legally for the first time in the Berkshires.
Theory Wellness becomes the sixth store in Massachusetts to sell marijuana for recreational use. The company has been open for the past two years, but selling medicinal marijuana only.
Friday morning, the first customers lining up just before 8 a.m. Police were also on scene to help direct traffic and make sure everything on scene remains calm.
Even though everyone in line was excited over the opening of the shop, it is not without controversy. Theory Wellness, though, hopes it will change people’s minds by contributing to the tax base and economy in the area. Theory officials believe they’ll make around $50,000 to $100,000 in sales just on Friday.
