Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello, who was arrested this week after a traffic stop in Clifton Park, has expressed remorse and isn't shying away from blame.

A statement from her reads:

"I understand the severity of my actions and take full responsibility. I apologize to my family, friends and constituents and am deeply sorry that I let you down. I expect more from myself. Finally, I would like to personally thank the New York State Troopers for their professionalism in this matter and the service they render everyday to keep our communities safe."

According to New York State Police, around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday a 911 call came in from a driver who claimed another vehicle was driving aggressively and following too closely on I-890 in Schenectady.

After continuing onto I-87 northbound, the vehicle then left the highway at exit 9, where troopers were able to stop it on State Route 146A.

Troopers stated that Mantello, 53, showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Troopers said she was transported to the Clifton Park barracks where she provided a breath sample of .13 percent blood-alcohol content. The legal limit is .08 percent.

Mantello was also ticketed for following too closely and is due back in Clifton Park Town Court on Jan. 3.

Mantello has been intrumental in the past within Troy. She previously called upon Mayor Patrick Madden to drop charges held against Luna the dog

The mayor's office tells Spectrum News they are declining to comment as this "is a personal matter."

Mantello is also a legislative director for state Sen. Elizabeth Little, R-Warren County. Little's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
