The Toys for Tots Program is in need of more donations this year as gifts are reportedly down by more than 20 percent. This has prompted the cause to turn to the community for support.

In their Clifton Park warehouse on Monday were dozens of volunteers helping in the toy sorting center. With just days before Christmas, organizers say they have a long way to go to meet their goal.

Toys for Tots Capital Region coordinator Sgt. Albert Roman Jr. says they are about $300,000 short of closing this season's campaign goal. He says the program got off to a rough start this year with the closure of convenient drop off locations like Toys-R-Us and limited toy transportation.

With this decline, Toys for Tots says they still have 40,000 wish lists from children to check off before Christmas. They also require toys for kids aged 0-3 years old and 11 and older.

Toys for Tots says they are accepting donations throughout the city, including their Clifton Park location just off Route 146. It will be open daily 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., now through December 20.
