The Albany Fire Department's new mobile training center at the Port of Albany was visited Friday by Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, alongside Mayor Kathy Sheehan.

The training center will allow firefighters to take part in live training exercises in simulations of dangerous fire conditions.

"It will save lives for the great men and women who fight these fires. It will save lives of the people of this region because they will have the most up-to-date training and can save peoples lives," said Schumer, D-New York.

The mobile center is possible through a Department of Homeland Security federal grant totaling more than $426,000.
