When people hear the bells it instantly puts some in the giving mood.

"I appreciate what they do for everyone," said one person who donated to the cause.

The appreciation is good news for the Salvation Army who says they need that generosity now more than ever.

"Our donations go to help the people in the community, to those in need, by doing feeding programs, giving out toys during the Christmas season, and clothing throughout the year," said Major Fedrico Larrinaga, Salvation Army coordinator.

But, this year organizers say the amount of donations received from the holiday kettle campaign is down. They are trying to reach their $100,000 goal before Christmas.

"The more we are able to cover our goals the more people we are able to help," Larrinaga said.

Also needed are more dedicated volunteers.

If you cannot make it to one of these kettles, The Salvation Army says there are other ways you can donate.

"They can go to our website and continue to donate throughout the year," Larrinaga said.

The last bell will ring on December 24.
