In the Capital Region, most of the information delivered are laid out from local law enforcement and state officials. On Friday, Spectrum News received some local insight from the FBI.

James Hendricks was named the Special Agent in charge of the Albany Field Office in July. The office covers 39,000 square miles of Upstate New York and Vermont. He says since coming to Albany, he has noticed an uptick in crime.

That is something the department is continuing to work closely on with local police, specifically in places like Albany and Syracuse.

"When an investigation needs to be warranted and individuals are shooting at cars and injuring small children, they need to be off the streets. We can prosecute those individuals federally, and [they would] hopefully get more time than what they would get in the state court," Hendricks said.

The FBI is also working to increase recruitment. Qualified applicants will be able to speak one-on-one, with members of the department, at their Ask An Agent event on December 6.
