ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Emergency crews have responded to Albert Whitted Airport in downtown St. Petersburg after a Cessna airplane ended up in Tampa Bay.  

Officials have not released details of the incident but did say that four people were on board the plane. 

All four were rescued. One person was taken to an area hospital.

Boaters who were in the area helped with the rescue, along with Coast Guard crews that were doing training nearby.

It wasn't immediately known if the plane was landing or taking off.

The plane, a Cessna 172, remains in the water near the runway.
