Approximately 20 people are finding somewhere else to spend the night after a fire in Troy.

Flames broke out just after 8 p.m. on 1st Street right off Burden Avenue on the south side of the city. The chief says three or four rooms were on fire on the third floor, and took the department 15 to 20 minutes to put out.

"These are large apartments, it's a large building," said Chief Tom Garrett. "We cut a number of holes in the roof. Lot of fire damage to the third floor. Smoke and water damage to the rest of the building."

Garrett says the Red Cross was called out to assist the families whose apartments were affected.
