TROY, N.Y. -- Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin made his first public address since being sworn into this new role last week.

He offered a lengthy to-do list for Rensselaer County, and says he's hitting the ground running.

McLaughlin spoke about the county’s economy, making sure it grows in the future, and making the area more business friendly.

He says he wants to expand programs for youth and see redevelopment of the waterfront property in downtown Troy.

Also near the top of his list: tackling the opioid crisis. He says he wants to help heroin addicts get the help they need and he says working with surrounding counties will be key.

McLaughlin also spoke about continuing to help the Hoosick Falls community, and the town of Nassau with their water contamination issues.

And another important issue on his list: securing funding to improve infrastructure throughout the county.
