State Police are mourning the loss of one of their own who served more than 30 years in the Capital Region.

Police say Trooper Michael Anson died Tuesday from illness stemming from his assignment at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 attacks. There he was assigned to aid in the search and recovering efforts.

Trooper Anson began his service back in 1986, spending his entire time with Troop G.

During that time he was stationed in various places including East Greenbush, Schodack, and Brunswick.

He is survived by his wife and three children. He was 56 years old.
