If you’ve been in Saratoga lately, you might’ve noticed a man, camera in hand, capturing every moment as he walks around town.

“I did have one guy jump in front of me and do the wave thing,” said Robert Wheaton, a Saratoga-based artist.

What You Need To Know

  • Robert Wheaton is a lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs

  • Wheaton started seeing 4K walk alongs from Japan, bought a 4K television, and fell in love with the quality

  • Wheaton spends a lot of his time at a canvas, painting popular Saratoga locations

Wheaton’s GoPro camera is shooting in 4K, which is some of the highest quality video you’ll find. He fell in love with 4K after seeing similar videos in Japan and thought it was a great way to share his hometown with the world.

“These videos take about three hours to show up in the low resolution,” he said.

It takes five additional hours to process the 4K video he’s capturing, as he walks some of Saratoga’s most popular thoroughfares.

“Once I first started it and posted it into Saratoga Facebook groups, people loved it,” he said.

Wheaton says he’s been hearing a lot from former Saratogians.

“They’re mainly amazed at how much it has changed in the last few years in comparison from when they lived here just ten years ago,” he said.

He also spends a lot of time at a canvas, painting Saratoga scenery. The artwork dominates a room at his home he’s coined The Saratoga Room.

“I hope to have people come up by appointment or invitation,” Wheaton said. “That way they can come in and sit and talk about Saratoga.”

It’s all in the name of sharing Saratoga and all it has to offer.
