The Albany NAACP and the People's Perception Project are joining forces to work on new civic engagement and education programs.

The virtual event featured organizations and leaders from the Capital Region, including our own Mercedes Williams, who was moderating. It focused on the NAACP's new high school curriculum.

It's called "Civic Engagement: How It Looks in Your School." The series will explore ways to educate and assist members of the community to be civically engaged.

"Know this is about empowerment," said Rep. Paul Tonko. "This is taking your needs, ideas, and allowing you to reap what you sow."

Spectrum donated $10,000 to support the program. The funding will be used to provide education, orientation, and overview on civic engagement.
