Nadia Raza always has a lot going on. The mother of three is helping her two eldest children with remote learning, while also taking care of her youngest, who is just 6 months old.

On top of that, Raza recently quit her two decade-long career in the dental industry to follow her dream of opening a Pakistani restaurant, Curry Patta.

“Every day I wake up I’m like, ‘this is insane. This is crazy.’ Our day whizzes by, and by nine, I’m like, ‘OK, the baby’s in bed; I just need to sit down and unwind,’” says Raza.

Curry Patta is currently under construction in what was the former Subway on Main Street in Altamont. Raza’s husband is doing the work himself. Eventually, they plan to more than double the square footage by building out to include a fire pit and a cigar bar.

“I thought it was just going to be a tiny, small, quaint place but now, the project is huge,” says Raza.

The big picture includes weekly belly dancers, a full bar, and a VIP area for people to eat and drink. Most of those plans will come together after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

“It’s been very smooth, a little too smooth where I’m like a little nervous. Everything is going too right,” Raza says, laughing.

Raza plans to open the restaurant sometime in November.
