The Lansingburgh school district continues to try to wrap its head around the death of Ayshawn Davis. The 11 year old was a day into the school year when he was killed.

"It's been difficult, because I think that our staff is looking for a way to mourn, and it's tough to do that when you're at home in front of a computer all day," says Lansingburgh Superintendent Dr. Antonio Abitabile.

What You Need To Know

  • Ayshawn Davis had just started middle school when he was killed

  • Lansingburgh administrators are introducing the Anything is Possible Scholarship in Davis' memory

  • The district is offering virtual counseling for students

Most of Lansingburgh's instruction is taught virtually, meaning the community hasn't been able to mourn together. Counseling has been offered to students through online appointments.

The Lansingburgh School District is also starting the "Anything is Possible" scholarship, which will be given to a graduating senior, starting this spring.

"We will have that annual reminder that this is giving somebody an opportunity that [Davis] didn't get, an opportunity to go above and beyond and succeed in ways he wasn't able to," says Abitabile.

The district says it's already getting donations to go toward the scholarship.
