Some members of the Rensselaer County Legislature say they're taking action against the S.A. Dunn Landfill to protect the health and well-being of county residents.
A new resolution calls upon the state DEC and Gov. Kathy Hochul to review and reverse their recent approval of the operating permit for the landfill, located in the city of Rensselaer. The resolution was introduced by recently appointed Legislator Scott Rogers.
The proposed resolution cites truck traffic; offensive odors; debris in the air; and being close to the Rensselaer City School District as concerns raised by residents and other local officials. The permit was renewed at the end of last year.
The legislature is expected to vote on the resolution at its February 11 meeting. That will take place at 6 p.m. at 99 Troy Road in East Greenbush.
