The slew of bomb threats emailed to businesses and buildings around the nation Thursday extended into the Capital Region.

According to an email sent to the Shenendehowa School District community, Gowana Middle School Principal Robin Gawrys "opened a spam email that included a non-specific, bomb threat at our 'company.' " Other Shenendehowa district staffers said they also received the email.

A shelter-in-place was ordered, and was later lifted once the threat was confirmed to be spam.

Around 2 p.m., the Greene County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a threat to the county office building, closing the office for the remainer of the day. Authorities did not say if it was connected to the threats nationwide.

These spam emails prompted an additional response from Port Jervis Schools. The district says an email was received by a staff member at the middle school on Thursday, referencing a non-specific threat to the building.

Police were called and as a precaution students evacuated as officers cleared the high school, middle school, and elementary school buildings.

As of 4 p.m., buses were released to take kids home. The FBI gave Spectrum News a statement in response to the threats.

“We are aware of the recent bomb threats made in cities around the country, and we remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance. As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety,” said the statement.
