WATERVLIET, N.Y. — Watervliet police have released the identity of the person who died in a fiery crash in the city last Tuesday.

They say 29-year-old Timothy Bynes of Georgia was behind the wheel of the car.

Colonie police were trying to pull over the car around 10:45 p.m. on July 3, after they say it was speeding on Troy-Schenectady Road, and trying to evade an officer.

The car pulled away from the officer, who found it crashed on 19th Street near 8th Avenue.

Police say due to the condition of Bynes' remains and the vehicle after the fire, DNA had to be used to determine the true identity of the driver.
