The second annual Big G Classic tipped off this weekend in Washington Park to honor the life and legacy of late community resident Gerald Campbell Sr.
The two-day basketball tournament garnered the attention of more than 2,000 participants and attendees of the Albany community.
“The bigger idea outside of just honoring my father was to bring Albany together and to show that there’s love here, there’s peace here,” Gerald Campbell Jr. said.
After Campbell Sr., the event organizer, leader and founder, passed in September 2020, his sons wanted to honor their father in the city he loved and gave so much to.
“The beauty about that just shows the amount of love that we have in our community,” said Marquis Campbell.
Campbell Sr.'s impact was seen and felt this weekend as children and adult athletes took to the court to hoop competitively.
